ANOTHER ROOKIE TAMES THE HIGH BANKS IN ASA FEATURE
ODESSA, MO ( July 5th, 2008) – ASA Late Model qualifying top spot went to Trent Snyder – winner of both ASA races in 2007 at the high banks. Snyder was followed by Brent Brevak, Alec Carll, Cody Smith and Jerry Einhaus. Top local regulars in the field were Joe Ross and 2007 Late Model Champ Austin Siebert.
The GM Performance Shootout featured 9 cars going 25 laps for the final two transfer spots to the feature event. Ronnie Hartford led early and cruised thru the 25-laps to take the checkered flag. Billy Crane was runner-up in the event. During the winner’s presentation – it was announced by ASA that all 32 cars would be run in the feature event.
The I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri served as hosts for the extended distance Light Up The Night 150 and in what can only be described as a truly wild and crazy night of racing in the Show-Me State, a new star was born and he made history in the process!
15-year-old Drew Brannon, who just signed with the Jack Smith Motorsports Driver Development Program, made his new boss proud as the Miami, Florida teenager led all 150 laps to win the Light Up The Night 150 and become the youngest driver in ASALMS History to win a Feature!
Brannon held off a last minute charge from 2007 ASALMS North Rookie of the Year, Jesse Saunders in a dramatic green-white-checkered finish to score the biggest upset win in series history.
Drew Brannon, Jack Smith, and the rest of the Jack Smith Motorsports Team celebrate their drivers’ first career ASALMS Feature Win at I-70 Speedway. For Smith, it was also his first career Feature Win as a Car Owner! Smith dropped out of the event, but finished 21st in the same race with suspension problems (Chuck Gonzalez Photo)
Saunders slammed the Turn Two wall as the checkered was coming out, but since he wasn’t the cause of the caution, that was for Ron Hartford who tagged the Inside front stretch wall coming out of Turn Four, Saunders will finish second for the second race in a row.
In addition, ASALMS Northern Division Points Leader, Eddie Hoffman, who won the first three North races of the season, saw his streak stopped after getting knocked out of the race due to an accident. Saunders is now just Two (2) points behind Hoffman (Unofficially) in the chase for the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division title!
18-year-old Cody Smith finished a career high third while Nick Neville was fourth. ASALMS North Rookie of the Year Points Leader, Brett Moffitt was the second 15-year-old in the Top Five as he finished Fifth after starting 18th.
Chris Eggleston came home sixth while Wes Griffith Jr., was seventh over Josh Lane who came from 28th to finish eighth. Steven Brooks earned the Performance Concepts Hard-Charger Award with his 30th to Ninth place run! Nick Bussell completed the Top 10.
Dash 15 lap action had heat race winners Robert Isabell and Michael Deschenes battling from the drop of the dreen flag. Isabell was the early leader until Lap 6 when Deschenes powered by. Isabell continued to dog Deschenes closing up the gap – but on lap 11 Isabell resumed the lead when mechanical failure got the better of Deschenes SAAB racer. Isabell the current point leader would go on to win the feature – his first of the season. The victory lane celebration was shared with brother Jason Isabell who was runner-up. Jeremy Roberts was third spot, Ashley Deshenes fourth and Gene McCaulley rounded out the top five.
Enduro 12 lap action had 13 racers vying for a win with Danny Anders out front early being chased by several others thru the pack. Jason Payne was the rabbit and zipped thru the field taking over the top spot on lap 10. It was not to be however as Payne was clocked several laps under the magic 23 second mark and was moved to the rear of the finish. Tommy “the tank” Dunmire who also passed Anders on lap 10 was declared the winner of the event with Anders runner-up. Steve Bailey, RD Miller and Marty Meyers rounded out the top five. Anders and Miller were heat race winners.
Racing continues Saturday July 19th with Harley Davidson night and a special 100-lap Late Model race. The asphalt track will not run on Saturday July 12th. Gates open at 5pm and hot laps begin at 5:45 and racing starts at 7:00pm

ISABELL DASHES THRU PIT STOP – JOHNSON CLAIMS SUPER STOCKS
ODESSA, MO ( June 28th -- 2008) – Fan Appreciation Night at the Races with a special 30-lap live pit stop Dash feature highlighted weekend action at the high banks. Doctor Danger performed again this weekend setting himself on fire for the fans.
Dash 30 lap action featured a twist never seen before in the Dash class as not only 30 laps were run – but live pit stops were required on the green between lap 5 and 30. Jason Isabell led from the start with Steven Littrell and Mike Burgoon in tow. Littrell pitted first and then Isabell as Burgoon stayed out till late in the race. Littrell was leading until lap 27 when Isabell resumed the lead and took the checkers. Littrell was second – Burgoon third – Gene McCaulley was fourth and Dave Walker rounded the top five spots. A possible mechanical failure on Michael Deschenes car claimed his wife Ashley and Marty Meyers nights as the threesome were unable to continue. Michael Deschenes and Jason Isabell were fast qualifiers. Point leader Robert Isabell’s vehicle broke early in the evening and he was unable to run.
Super Truck 10 lap action saw Randy Price take the early lead but the Raytown Rocket needed just two laps as Ronnie Hartford took off on the field and ran to the checkers for his sixth victory in six attempts – perfect on the season. Randy Price was second spot and Damon Clevenger was third. Brad Johnson in a new Super Truck was fourth spot. Hartford won the heat event.
Super Stock 15 lap action saw young John Thomason lead the first half of the feature event with veteran Brad Johnson close by in hot pursuit. By lap 8 – Johnson was able to slip under Thomason coming out of turn 2 as Thomason pushed high. Johnson would go on to lead the rest of the laps taking the victory – his first in a Super Stock. Thomason was runner-up and Mark Spillman was third spot. Paul Carter and Shane Dawe rounded out the top five spots. Johnson was the heat race winner also making him 2 for 2 on the night.
Enduro 12 lap action began with an unusual event as a several car pileup slowed the entire field coming to the green flag. Christian Ewing was unable to return to action. Kevin Hunt took the lead once action resumed. Marty Meyers doing double duty took the lead on lap 2 and he was passed by Robert Rodriguez on lap 4. Rodriguez, Jason Payne, Meyers and Mike Payne ran in a tight pack right to the checkers – the foursome looked fast – and they were unfortunately as all four were penalized for violating the 23 second/per lap rule. That let Tommy Speakman move from fifth spot all the way to winner! Kevin Hunt was runner-up and Rick McCaulley was third. Mary Cross and Ross Olson scored top five finishes also. Meyers and Ewing were heat race winners.
Racing continues next Saturday with the ASA Late Model Series Light Up The Night 150 along with the I-70 Dash and Enduro racers.

HARTFORD DOUBLES AGAIN - THIRD DOUBLE OF THE SEASON!
ODESSA, MO ( June 14th 2008) – Ford UAW Night at the races and Mini-Sprints on the dirt track highlighted another evening of racing at the I-70 Speedway Motorsports complex tonight.
Late Model action 30 laps tonight began as young gun Billy Crane took the lead at the green flag. The Rocket Ronnie Hartford made his way to Crane’s bumper by lap 9 and the battle was on. The duo would fight for the top spot lap after lap until they spun in tandem on lap 25 putting Iowa’s Thor “the Hammer” Anderson into the lead. On the restart – Crane and Anderson were involved in a bumper to bumper situation which resulted in Anderson spinning hard into the turn 4 concrete. Crane was parked for the remainder of the event and Ronnie Hartford went on to yet another feature win with Elton Rust Jr in second and Caleb Hall third. Anderson was scored fourth and Crane top five.
Super Truck 10 lap shootout action featured only three Super Trucks in basically a dash for the cash tonight. In the heat race Randy Price lead every lap until a bobble off turn four allowed Ronnie Hartford the Raytown Rocket to nab him at the finish line. Hartford didn’t wait very long in the shootout as he jumped out front on lap four and never looked back as he kept his perfect record in the class with yet another win. Randy Price was second and Damon Clevenger was third.
Super Stock 15 lap action saw heat race winner Rodney Phillips take the lead at the drop of the green flag with Brandon Davis on his bumper from the start. Phillips and Davis put on one of the best shows in recent memory as they battled for the win. Davis dogged Phillips lap after lap and pulled side by side on the final lap. As the pair raced off turn four Davis inched past Phillips for the win. John Thomason was third spot and Greg Spillman subbing for son Mark was fourth with Paul Carter rounding out the top five.
Dash 15 lap action had Robert Isabell out front early trying to outrun Michael Deschenes in his SAAB powered racer. Brother Jason was out due to mechanical failure and Robert drove Jason’s familiar #76 ride. Deschenes wasted little time getting to the lead by lap four and rode on to the win with Isabell in second spot. THE DIRT TRACK
(Odessa, Mo) The dirt was flying at I-70 Speedway like the rumors of dirt covering asphalt, Saturday night at I-70 Speedway. For those who don't realize it, there is a dirt and an asphalt track at the I-70 facility. On Saturdays they both run at the same time! On this particular Saturday, the Ford UAW night at the races drew 50 dirt track, Micro Midgets with drivers, ages 6 to 60.
When asked what she had to say to 10 year old Hunter Roush for beating her to the checkered flag in the Junior Sprints, younger, Hannah Stone said, "...aaaa...thanks!" The large crowd in the dirt track stands went wild with appreciation for the cute, little race car drivers, standing in victory lane. Track Owner, Brad McDonald commented, "This is the future of motorsports, right here!" Many of the tow rigs arrived with two or three race cars on board and fuel for useage in what many refer to as Mini-Sprints is making this style of racing seem more popular and it appears to be growing. Associate sponsors, Maga, Lear, Johnson Controls, Amprex, Devon Cleaning, J&S Transmission and Roger & Theresa Hooper brought the Micros to I-70's 1/3 mile clay track with great pride.
Really proud in victory lane in another entry class was 15 yr old restrictor plate winner, James Purser, "This feels great! This track is really fast!" Second in the man size race was Lucas Boland, just out of karts and third went to Garrett Reider.
When the wings are removed, the micros resemble a field of USAC Midgets and the Non wing race was very impressive with Jamie Wilson taking the win over Tim Koch and Jared Rogers. Many of these same drivers stepped into another car or bolted on wings for the final event of the evening yet to come!
Now they resembled a field of World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, but downsized! Jamie Wilson again drove to the front of the impressive field but had to settle for third as a surprise photo finish came blasting to the checkers, Kenny Grabill came out of nowhere with a high side, multi car pass at the last minute and put leader Tim Koch in his apparent place, second! It was an upset and had officials wishing for a replay! The fans, many had just been treated to great finishes on the pavement as well, stayed to the last checkered was thrown on Saturday night. Watch for later press releases this week as there may be some interesting news coming from I-70 Speedway and of course this weekend's "Eve of Destruction" featuring an $8,000 to win XDDL Demolition Derby and a Mad Fears Figure 8 race are on tap at www.i70speedway.net

RAYTOWN ROCKET DOUBLES AGAIN IN LATE MODELS AND SUPER TRUCKS
ODESSA, MO ( June 7th -- 2008) – KC Power Equipment and VFW Night at the Races was a windy one – but dry for once at the high banks! Kids received racing flag and several other giveaways on the evening.
Late Model action featured 40 laps on the high banks as Billy Crane and Ron Hartford battled the first 14 laps side-by-side and nose-to-tail with Hartford trying in vain to pass for the lead. Meanwhile Mike Vannoy Jr and Thor Anderson reeled in the pair. Lap 14 saw Elton Rust spin out of turn four and narrowly miss collecting the field. On the restart – a tangle between Ryno Burke and Caleb Hall ended Burke’s night and ruined his race car. Burke celebrating his 18th birthday tomorrow went away unrewarded tonight. Lap 15 saw the Raytown Rocket move to the front and drive away from the field. On lap 22 – Crane and Vannoy Jr tangled and spun sending both to the rear. After the next restart things settled down and Hartford drove away to his second feature win of the season and his second feature win of the evening at the high banks. Iowa’s Thor Anderson was runner-up running out of laps finishing on Hartford’s bumper. Vannoy recovered for third spot and Crane and Hall rounded out the top five. Vannoy Jr and Anderson were top qualifiers.
Super Truck 20 lap action saw a fierce battle as points leader Ron Hartford and pole sitter Randy Price battled the first half of the event putting on quite the show for fans. Lap 11 saw the pair tangle and the Raytown Rocket move to the front. Hartford would go on to another victory – the only winner in the class as of yet this season. Price was runner-up, Damon Clevenger was third spot and Greg Spillman and Jim Gochenour rounded out the top five. Price won the heat event.
Super Stock 10 lap action began with a crash on the start as Rodney Phillips and Brandon Davis made contact. Phillips was unable to continue after backing into the wall. That left Davis and 3rd place in points Mark Spillman to battle for the win. Spillman assumed the front spot and held off a furious charge by Davis the last two laps to take his 2nd victory of the season. Davis was second, John Thomason third and Phillips and Damon Bacus rounded out the top five. Spillman won the heat event.
Dash 15 lap action saw the brotherly duo of the Isabell’s take the front row starting positions. Robert led at the green flag but Jason after suffering mechanical woes on a couple of occasions looked back to championship form as he drove to the lead and never looked back winning his first Dash feature of the season. Robert was runner-up and Gene McCaulley third. Mike Burgoon and Dave Walker rounded out the top five. Robert Isabell and Steven Littrell won heat events.
Enduro 12 lap action was a Steve Bailey and RD Miller show as they also put on a side-by-side racing exhibition running high and low all over the track. Bailey moved to the front on lap 8 when Miller began sparking and slower slightly. Bailey would go on to his first feature event of the year with RD Miller holding on to runner-up position. Tommy Speakman who actually finished 2nd spot fell victim to the 23-second rule and was DQ’d. Tommy Dunmire was third spot and Marty Meyers fourth with Danny Anders rounding out the top five. Anders and Bailey won heat events.
Racing continues next Saturday with Ford UAW night at the races featuring the Ford Car club and 5 classes of racing. Hot laps at 5:45pm and racing at 7:00pm The I-70 Dirt Track features Mini Sprint Madness the same night.

MOTHER NATURE TAMES THE HIGH BANKS --- AGAIN!
(Odessa, MO – May 31, 2008) --- Figure 8 racing literally stormed into I-70 Speedway Saturday night! Many Iowa drivers and fans were on hand for a full program of racing including asphalt racing events on the half mile oval which got rained out after a brief storm with wicked lightning hit the area just before the gates opened.
Track owner Brad McDonald decided to reward the nearly 100 fans waiting at the front gate by opening up and putting on a practice event at no charge. The dirt figure 8 track was quickly packed in for a preliminary practice race. MAD FEARS Figure 8 racing will attempt another official debut on June 21st with the $20,000 Series Championship back in September at I-70’s dirt track.
A young lady from Brooklyn, Iowa Bailey Bales took her first ever figure 8 feature win Saturday night under I-70's Musco lights. Second went to Russell Klien also from Brooklyn, Iowa where within 30 miles several specially built figure 8 tracks have formed circuit of MAD FEARS competitions. Thomas Stevens raced wildly through the intersection to capture third place. Brody Bales and Walter Cox rounded out the top five. Check www.i70speedway.net for more upcoming figure 8 events in Missouri.

VANNOY JR SCORES LATE MODEL VICTORY
ODESSA, MO ( May 24th -- 2008) – C & W Frozen Foods night at the races beat out mother nature in the Odessa area as many tracks rained out. The high banks had action along with Sprints and Midgets on the dirt track.
Late Model action running a 40 lap feature tonight had Mike Vannoy Jr with the Jess & Jim’s Steakhouse sponsorship running out front early with the Raytown Rocket fresh off his second place USST run at the Iowa Speedway last weekend chasing him. Lap 12 would be the closing lap for Hartford as lapped traffic slowed Vannoy and Hartford was glued to his bumper. The pair battled lap after lap until lap 29 when Hartford began smoking and backed off the pace. Vannoy would go on to his first Late Model victory of the season with Hartford taking runner-up honors. Billy Crane was a distant third and Ryno Burke and Elton Rust Jr rounded out the five. Hartford and Vannoy topped qualifying with fast times.
Super Truck 15 lap action went all green flag laps as Randy Price led early but gave up the top spot to Ronnie Hartford who continued his streak of 3-in-a-row in the class. Randy Price who also ran at the Iowa Speedway USST race was runner-up. Jeremy Riggs was third spot and Damon Clevenger was fourth. Mark Spillman moving up from the Super Stock class tonight ran fifth spot. Hartford was the heat race winner.
Super Stock 15 lap action saw Brandon Davis out front with John Thomason in chase. Rodney Phillips was third spot looking for the front. Yet another feature finished all green laps as Davis would take his first ever Super Stock victory followed by Phillips and Mark Spillman. Thomason was fourth and Charley Gravelle fifth. Spillman won the heat race event.
Dash 15 lap action had Robert Isabell lead at the checkers, but a rocket ship in the form of Jeremy Roberts shot past on lap 2 and took first spot. Michael Deschenes running from the back picked off cars until lap 10 when lapped traffic slowed Roberts and Deschenes was able to get by for the lead – but the same lapped traffic gave Roberts back the lead until lap 13 when Deschenes moved ahead for the final time. Roberts not to be denied – held his spot and challenged Deschenes all the way to the checkered flag. Deschenes would take the win with Roberts second as they crossed the line fender to fender. Robert Isabell was third, Gene McCaulley fourth and Mike Burgoon rounded out the top five. Deschenes and Burgoon also won heat events.
Enduro 12 lap action saw outside pole sitter Tommy Speakman jump to the front and never look back as he led Gary Walton all the way thru green flag laps to the checkers. Walton was second with Danny Anders third. Kevin Hunt fourth and RD Miller rounded out the top five. Walton and Speakman won heat events.
