It looked like the 2002 racing season for Randy Price, was going to be his championship season. At the first part of the season, he had already won 3 races in a row in the struck division at I-70 Speedway. Shortly after his last win, he was forced to sit out one feature race because of a problem with his race truck that could not be fixed in time. For any racer who is racing for points, one race can make a huge difference. All in all, he finished the 2002 season with a respectable 4th place finish.
I caught up with Randy Price at the garage of his long time friend Dave Parker. For the 2003 season at I-70, Randy will be trading in his ”Struck Class” truck for a Super Truck. Randy is building the chassis himself. The engine that will go in the Chevrolet Super Truck is being mastered by Smitty Engines. Randy and his crew, which consists of Darryl Bragg (tire man), Steve and Terri Daly (tech, maint) and Jeff, hope to be able to race all races scheduled at I-70 Speedway for the 2003 season. They would also like to visit some of the other area tracks, and try their luck there.
If you happen to be in the pits this year, you really need to stop by and talk to Randy and his crew. Randy has one of the greatest attitudes about racing at I-70. His entire goal for the 2003 racing season, is to just have fun. With Randy moving to the Super Truck class, I asked him if he had any advise for all of the new rookies who will be running in the Struck Class this year. He had this advise. “ Remember that it is a hobby, and you need seat time before you think you are fast.”
With Randy’s attitude and the support he receives from his wife, Gail, and two children, Rachelle and Jeremy, we know he will have a great season in 2003.
